During President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo’s morning press conference, Durango stood out as one of the safest states in the country, ranking among the three entities with the fewest intentional homicides nationwide and also showing positive results in combating extortion. This was announced during the presentation of the Crime Incidence Report for February 2026, with data from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System.

During the presentation, it was explained that a large proportion of the country’s homicides are concentrated in certain states, while states like Durango maintain a much lower incidence. Progress in combating extortion and in prevention efforts carried out in coordination among authorities was also highlighted.

President Claudia noted that these results have been achieved thanks to the strengthening of intelligence and security investigation units, as well as the joint work between federal institutions and state prosecutors’ offices, including Durango’s, to develop solid investigations and advance in the arrest of suspected criminals.

In Durango, Governor Esteban Villegas Villarreal has implemented a security strategy based on coordination with the Mexican government and municipalities, with the goal of strengthening crime prevention and maintaining peaceful conditions for Durango families.

As part of this strategy, the State Government has delivered patrol vehicles, equipment, and security tools to municipal police forces in various regions of the state, reinforcing surveillance and improving the response capacity of local police.

These actions, combined with the coordinated efforts of federal, state, and municipal authorities, contribute to Durango’s continued ranking among the safest states in the country, with results reflected in national security reports.
