The appearance of banners with messages attributed to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) has triggered security alerts in the city of Durango, after they were found in various strategic locations throughout the city. The banners directly allude to figures linked to cells of the Sinaloa Cartel.

According to initial reports, the banners were placed on bridges and in other highly visible areas. Their content directly challenges alleged leaders identified in previous conflicts in the region, including individuals mentioned as “El Mayito Flaco” and the Cabrera Sarabia brothers.

The messages employ a tone that combines warnings with expressions of apparent “respect” when addressing their intended recipients directly.

The banners also include accusations against security forces and law enforcement agencies, which they accuse of acting with bias. Following the discovery, state and federal security forces reinforced patrols in the capital and surrounding municipalities, while risk analysis protocols were activated due to potential territorial disputes.

To date, no official statement has been issued confirming the authorship of the messages, nor have any arrests been reported in connection with these events.

Durango is part of the region known as the “Golden Triangle,” which it shares with Sinaloa and Zacatecas, an area historically linked to trafficking routes and the presence of various criminal groups.

In this context, security analysts have warned that the internal fragmentation of the Sinaloa Cartel, with tensions between different factions, has created scenarios where other groups are attempting to expand their influence or reposition themselves in strategic territories in northern Mexico.

The public appearance of these types of messages is interpreted as an indicator of disputes over territorial control and as a strategy of symbolic pressure, seeking to project strength and assert their position against rivals and authorities.

Residents and business owners in the city have expressed concern about the impact these events have on the perception of security, highlighting conflicts that transcend isolated incidents and are embedded in broader regional dynamics.

The investigations are ongoing, led by the relevant authorities, who will have to determine the true origin of the banners, their connection to recent crimes, and the implications for security in Durango and its metropolitan area.
