Social media reported that a confrontation had occurred near Guayabo San Ignacio, Sinaloa, between members of criminal groups from the state of Durango and the neighboring state. However, the situation was denied by Secretary General of Government Héctor Vela Valenzuela.

“I have no real certainty that a confrontation occurred; it has not been reported as a confirmed event at the Security Roundtable,” he clarified.

Several unverified pages reported the presence of the National Guard, several deaths and injuries, and even that the alleged leader of the Durango criminal group, named “Abel,” had been rushed to Tayoltita due to serious injuries. In this regard, the State Attorney General, Sonia Yadira de la Garza Fragozo, reaffirmed that no such confrontation ever occurred.

Vela Valenzuela emphasized that Durango maintains stability thanks to coordination between the different levels of security. He added that Durango closed the month of August with good public safety indicators, standing out as one of the three states with the lowest rate of intentional homicides in the country.

Héctor Vela Valenzuela confirmed with the National Guard and the Mexican Army that there were no confrontations.

The Secretary General of Government reaffirmed the state authority’s commitment to maintaining a safe environment for Durango residents, especially in view of the return to school. “As long as we continue at this level of coordination, Durango will continue to enjoy a climate of security,” he said.

Regarding the recent meeting with Durango’s elected mayors, the Secretary emphasized that the spirit of institutional collaboration was reaffirmed. “Durango comes first, before colors or parties, the governor will work for all municipalities equally.”

He also stated that federal contributions to municipalities have increased, despite the difficult economic context. “The governor has prioritized the issue of participation; everyone has received what they deserve,” he said.
