Increase in homeless people reported in Durango

426

Durango municipal authorities are analyzing the emergence of new cases of homeless people in the city, some of whom are originally from states such as Chihuahua and Chiapas.

They are seeking to avoid speculation about the reasons why these people come to Durango, whether by choice or because someone else brings them from other cities or neighboring states.

The director of the Municipal DIF, Efraín de los Ríos Díaz, reported that among the new cases detected are both men and women, a situation that is a source of concern and will be addressed to prevent the problem from worsening.

The municipality currently has a registry of homeless people, which is updated monthly and, along with new registrations, totals approximately 150 people. In recent weeks, between five and six cases have been added, representing people from other cities or regions of the country.

The registry includes their name, nickname, physical characteristics, and any other information that allows them to be identified and their place of origin determined.

Detection is carried out primarily during nighttime patrols by DIF and Civil Protection personnel, especially during extreme temperatures or due to the recent rains in the capital. They are invited to seek shelter in one of the city’s shelters.

The areas where they are most concentrated and where patrols are primarily conducted are the Historic Center, as well as the areas surrounding IMSS and ISSSTE hospitals, near Guadiana Park. However, few people accept the help of spending the night in a safe space.

In the case of migrants, who are also located in the city, many travel accompanied by minors, but their stay in the city is usually only temporary.
