Durango experienced an unusual incident this weekend after a light aircraft flew over the state capital and dropped dozens of flyers with an alleged narco-message accusing politicians and officials of having ties to the criminal organization.

According to videos shared on social media such as TikTok and X, the papers fell mainly in the vicinity of the Plaza de Armas and Plaza IV Centenario, where passersby picked up the documents and reviewed their contents. The material includes names, photographs of public figures, and messages accusing them of allegedly protecting the Cabrera-Mayozetaz cartel.

The message on the flyers

The flyers featured the title: “Durango, the failed narco-state that no one talks about.” They also included the names of alleged criminal leaders. The document even bore an apparent seal from the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), although there is no official confirmation of its authenticity.

Among the slogans were slogans such as “Do you recognize them? Report them,” which generated surprise and concern among residents who witnessed the aerial distribution of the flyers in the heart of the city.

In January of this year, similar flyers with threatening messages were reported to have been distributed in communities in the mountainous area of Durango. Incidents have also been reported in neighboring states such as Sinaloa in which flyers are distributed with accusations against politicians and alleged links to organized crime.

So far, neither state nor federal authorities have issued an official statement on this new incident, which once again puts the security situation in Durango and the alleged links between political actors and criminal groups under scrutiny.
