There is already a strategy to protect ecotourism centers in Durango

Two months after the beginning of the conflict between two factions of the Sinaloa Cartel, and all that it has caused in the private sector of Durango, mainly in the reduction of the rent of the cabins, the president of the Association of Ecotourism Centers, Rafael Sarmiento Aguirre, assured that a strategy has already been created, in conjunction with the State Government to provide certainty and security to visitors, especially those who travel by land.

He explained that proximity visits are being made in which the police corporations participate in the ecotourism centers, which has favored the perception of the population about an environment of security in these sites.

“This has helped people see that Durango is safe, and that it is possible to travel there,” he said; Therefore, there is confidence that December, which is just around the corner, will be a good vacation period, as has happened in previous years, and more people will travel to the mountainous part of the state to enjoy a quiet stay, because that is what is sought when renting a cabin in the middle of nature.

He reported that cancellations still persist, since there is still a perception of insecurity among the population, mainly in the transfer to the places, most of them concentrated during the month of October and continued so far in November; although they hope that in December they will begin to look for dates again.

“People are already talking, they are reserving for the month of December, or the reservations that were had for the month of December have been maintained, they have not yet been cancelled and we hope that it continues like this,” commented the person who at one time was the leader of the association of ecotourism centers of Durango.

Currently, cabins in Durango do not exceed 60 percent occupancy, which compared to previous years, where levels could exceed 90 percent, speaks of the fear that the population has to go to these recreational and rest sites.

“Let us remember that the months of October and November are good because the mountains are still green and the cold is just beginning, but now we do have very low occupancy,” he said.
