Mexican Authorities Seize Two Planes Used in Explosive Attacks in Durango, Mexico

Mexican federal forces have successfully secured two planes allegedly used in a series of air attacks with explosives in different parts of the state of Durango. The operation was carried out by federal forces after a series of bombings had taken place in various regions of the area.

According to Governor Esteban Villegas Villarreal, the two planes were seized—one in Tamazula and another that operates between Tamazula and Ocampo—during an investigation led by the Federal General Prosecutor’s Office (FGR). This development is seen as a significant achievement by authorities and offers encouragement for further action against organized crime.

The events in Durango have highlighted the need for a comprehensive national strategy to combat organized crime and violence in Mexico. The Attorney General of the Republic will be responsible for carrying out proceedings related to the seized planes.

Background:

*   On November 6, residents of Tamazula reported an air chase between two planes, which was initially thought to be an exercise by the Mexican Armed Forces.

*   Images of a helicopter from the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar) circulating at low altitude fueled speculation about the incident.

*   However, subsequent statements suggest that this event might have been connected to the seizure of one of the aircraft used in the bombings.

Explosive devices were dropped over the town of Vascogil on October 28 and again in Tamazula last Saturday, November 2. The incidents are believed to be linked to organized crime, with some speculating that they might be related to Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada’s hideout.

The seizures of these planes demonstrate the need for a coordinated approach to tackling violence and organized crime in Mexico. Authorities must continue their efforts to combat these threats effectively.
