President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo’s working visit to Durango allowed for progress on a strategic project agenda for the state, including initiatives in infrastructure, highways, economic development, education, agriculture, and security, Governor Esteban Villegas Villarreal reported.
At the conclusion of the visit, the Governor traveled to Mexico City to follow up on the agreements reached with the President. As part of his agenda, he held meetings with the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, to review the state’s security strategy, and with the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT) to ensure the continuation of the Canatlán-Nuevo Ideal highway project and the Durango road improvement program.
During the visit, the Governor and the President inspected the progress of the El Tunal II Dam, a project that will guarantee drinking water for more than 340,000 residents for the next 50 years. In addition, an investment of 575 million pesos was announced for the comprehensive sanitary drainage project in Gómez Palacio, aimed at resolving a long-standing infrastructure problem in this municipality.
During the meeting with the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT), the work plan for the Canatlán–Nuevo Ideal highway was reviewed, with the goal of beginning construction on the most hazardous section. It was also agreed to address the Santiago Papasquiaro–Tamazula highway and to strengthen the maintenance program for federal highways and feeder roads throughout the state.
These actions will ensure the ongoing maintenance of federal highways using SICT machinery, as well as support the rehabilitation of feeder roads and state highways to improve connectivity, facilitate the movement of people and goods, and offer greater safety to those traveling on these routes.
Esteban Villegas emphasized that the coordinated work with the Government of Mexico allows for the continuity of strategic projects for Durango and the transformation of agreements reached during President Claudia Sheinbaum’s tour into works and actions that improve the quality of life for Durango families.
