Federal forces arrested 30 people during an operation carried out on June 28, 2026, in the tourist area of Mexiquillo, in the municipality of Pueblo Nuevo, Durango. Among those arrested were reportedly two or three high-priority targets for the Armed Forces.

The operation was conducted simultaneously by members of the Mexican Army, the National Guard, and other federal agencies, who secured access to this mountainous region for several hours. Unlike other operations in the area, initial reports indicated that the intervention was carried out without armed confrontations, as a result of prior intelligence gathering and surveillance.

The scale of the deployment and the profile of those allegedly arrested suggest this was one of the most significant operations carried out by federal forces in Durango in recent months, in a region considered strategic for drug trafficking organizations due to its location in the so-called Golden Triangle, where the states of Durango, Sinaloa, and Chihuahua converge.

Unofficially, it was reported that among those arrested were two or three high-priority targets considered by federal authorities due to their alleged importance within these criminal organizations. Some of those captured are reportedly linked to the organization headed by the Cabrera Sarabia brothers and to the faction known as “Mayito Flaco,” led by Ismael Zambada Sicairos. Unofficial sources indicated that among those arrested was allegedly an operator known by the alias “El Flechas,” along with members of his inner circle.

The operation on June 28, 2026, was part of a series of actions carried out by federal forces against the “Mayito Flaco” faction of the Sinaloa Cartel during the same month. Days earlier, on June 21 and 22 of the same year, members of the Mexican Army and the National Guard, in coordination with the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), carried out three raids in the city of Durango. These raids stemmed from information sharing with the U.S. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and military intelligence work by the Ministry of National Defense (SEDENA). The operations resulted in the seizure of three properties and 46 vehicles, including fuel tankers, all-terrain vehicles, and pickup trucks, as well as weapons, magazines, and ammunition of various calibers, belonging to the group led by Zambada Sicairos.

This most recent operation is part of the federal strategy implemented to weaken organized crime structures operating in the Sierra Madre Occidental region of Durango. It is one of a series of actions carried out in the state during June 2016 to dismantle the logistical and command structures of criminal groups operating in the Sierra Madre Occidental.

In addition to the arrests, the operation on June 28, 2026, resulted in the seizure of vehicles, high-powered weapons, tactical equipment, and other evidence that remains in the custody of federal authorities. Neither the Mexican Army (SEDENA), the National Guard, the State Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), nor the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) had issued an official statement regarding the results of the operation as of the time of this report.

If the preliminary information is confirmed, this operation would represent one of the most significant blows against organized crime in Durango this year, as part of a sustained offensive against the “Mayito Flaco” faction in the state.
