Students Demand Real Improvements Before Accepting New Control Mechanisms
The president of the Durango University Student Federation (FEUD), Jaison Gutiérrez, warned that students could seize city buses if public transportation conditions in the state do not improve.
The student leader pointed out that, despite previous commitments to modernization, buses in poor condition continue to operate, a situation that affects thousands of young users daily.
“We said we will not allow this situation to continue until we see new buses, until we see buses in good condition,” he stated, referring to the implementation of mechanisms such as biometric ID cards.
Gutiérrez clarified that the FEUD is not opposed to the technological upgrade of the system, but rather to the fact that these measures do not represent real benefits for those who use the transportation service daily.
The student leader stated that students from the Juárez University of the State of Durango make more than 150,000 trips daily on city buses, and therefore believes there are sufficient economic resources to renew the fleet.
He also denounced the fact that on holidays some drivers disregard student IDs and try to charge full fares, even though students continue to be regular users of the service.
He further criticized the fact that some buses operate without license plates and pointed out that routes known as “white buses” and “red buses” have some of the worst conditions within the public transportation system.
