The event featured the participation of six teams in the Open category and one in the Youth category, with Rancho El Potrillo “Tres Estrellas” securing the overall runner-up position by amassing a total of 325 points.

This championship is organized in honor of Don Esteban Tejeda Mejía, the former State President (PUA) of Durango, who enjoyed watching the competition hosted by the association organizing this qualifying round. Martín Leonardo López López’s jineteada de toro (bull riding) earned 20 points, while the terna en el ruedo (team roping) was successfully completed with loops thrown by Anwar Isay Quinteros Lerma and Raúl Arciniega Soto, yielding a combined total of 54 points.

They concluded their performance in Stage One of the state championship with the paso de la muerte (leap of death) executed by Martín Leonardo, earning 21 points, bringing their grand total to 325 points.

The other teams in the Open category posted scores below 300 points; they now await their participation in Stage Two—scheduled for May 30 and 31 in the same zone of the Durango state—hoping to secure one of the top three average scores across the entire state to earn their tickets to the National Charro Congress and Championship in San Luis Potosí. THIS WEEKEND: ESCARAMUZA QUALIFIERS — STAGE ONE

State Escaramuza Delegate Regina León Gutiérrez reports that the schedule is set for Stage One of the state Escaramuza qualifiers. The event will be held at the legendary “La Sanmartina” lienzo charro (charro arena) in the state capital, featuring the participation of 16 teams across various competitive categories. Just like the charro teams, the escaramuzas must compete in both stages; the team with the best overall average will be crowned the 2026 State Champion. The remaining teams will be ranked within the national standings—encompassing both Mexico and the United States—in their bid to secure a spot at the National Charro Championship. Furthermore, the children’s and youth teams participating in this state championship will earn their qualification for the National Charro Championship within their respective age categories.

The schedule for this Saturday at 2:00 PM features the following escaramuza teams: Reina Mía (Youth), Charra de Rancho Dalila (Open), Alacranas de Durango-Juvenil (Open), Reina Mía Reencuentro (Open), Adelitas de Durango (Children “A”), Alacranas de Durango (Youth), Reina Mía “Plata” (Children “B”), Alacrancitas de Durango (Children “A”), and Hacienda La Noria (Open).

For Sunday at noon, the lineup includes the escaramuza teams: Reina Mía (Children “A”), the defending state champions Charras de La Laguna (Open), Comarqueña (Youth), Reina Mía (Dientes de Leche—Young Children), Fuerza Charra (Children “B”), Adelitas de Durango (Open), and Hacienda El Agave (Open).

THE SECOND STAGE IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER FOR BOTH ZONES

Sunday, May 24, marks the second stage of the charro team competition in the La Laguna zone. One week later—on May 30 and 31—the competition will take place in the Durango Capital zone, which will also feature the participation of teams and Charros Completos (All-Around Charros) across the Open, Children’s, and Youth categories.

The PUA (State President) of Durango, along with the organizers of these official events, has made all the necessary arrangements to ensure that the corresponding awards ceremonies are held immediately following the conclusion of these qualifying rounds.
