Toll Increase on the ‘Super’ Highway in 2026 Impacts Tourism in Durango, Warns Industry Leaders

The toll on the Durango-Mazatlán highway has increased by 4.6 percent, bringing the round-trip cost to 1,640 pesos. The hotel sector warned that this increase will directly impact tourism and hotel occupancy.

New Toll Rates on the ‘Super’ Highway

The announced adjustment took effect this Monday, raising the cost of a one-way trip from 784 to 820 pesos, while a round trip increased from 1,568 to 1,640 pesos.

The increase also applies to other types of vehicles: motorcycles went from 392 to 410 pesos; buses, from 1,553 to 1,702 pesos; and six-axle cargo trucks, from 3,130 to 3,431 pesos.

Toll Increase Affects Tourism in Durango

The president of the Durango Hotel and Motel Association, Jaime Mijares Salum, pointed out that these types of increases affect family trips, as they are expenses that are often unforeseen and come as a surprise when budgeting.

“These toll increases do affect tourism and hotel occupancy, both for those traveling from Sinaloa to Durango and vice versa,” he stated.

Insecurity and Fuel Costs Also a Factor

He added that this is not the only factor impacting travel interest, as the perception of insecurity and the increase in fuel prices, especially for passenger transport, also play a role, making tickets more expensive.

“The increase in tolls for businesses can reach up to 20 percent, and this will eventually be reflected in products and services,” he commented.

Regarding the condition of the Durango-Mazatlán highway, he noted that he traveled it a few months ago and considered it to be in fair condition. He indicated that not all the tunnels were illuminated, although improvement work was underway. He added that he didn’t know if the work had been completed, but some imperfections in the asphalt, especially in areas near tunnels, had already been addressed.
