A tragic accident on the Mazatlán-Durango highway left a pregnant woman dead and three other people injured, one of them critically, on Thursday afternoon.

According to the report, the accident occurred around 2:30 p.m. at kilometer 105, near the town of El Salto, in Pueblo Nuevo, where two sport motorcycles collided for reasons that are still unclear.

Red Cross paramedics and Civil Protection personnel immediately responded to the scene to assist the victims. They confirmed the death of a pregnant woman, whose identity has not yet been released, while the three injured were rushed to a regional hospital.

Preliminary information indicates that the motorcyclists were traveling to Mazatlán to participate in the Mazatlán International Motorcycle Week 2026, which has generated widespread shock and grief among the biker community and the victims’ families.

Agents from the Durango State Attorney General’s Office carried out the corresponding procedures, including the removal of the body for transport to the Forensic Medical Service, where an autopsy will be performed.

Following the accident, traffic on the highway was partially closed for several hours to allow for rescue operations, investigation, and removal of the damaged vehicles, which sustained extensive material damage.

Personnel from the National Guard’s highway division assisted with traffic control, traffic management, and clearing the road, which was eventually reopened to traffic.

The incident has deeply affected those attending the motorcycle rally, which is taking place amidst one of the region’s most important tourist events.
