El Siglo de Durango reported on the explosion that occurred on January 7 at the corner of Bruno Martínez and Pino Suárez streets in downtown Durango, where three women suffered burns over most of their bodies.

Unfortunately, on the night of Tuesday, January 13, one of the injured women died, despite the efforts of the medical staff at General Hospital 450.

Around 9:30 p.m., hospital staff informed the Durango State Attorney General’s Office of the death of 42-year-old María Luisa Lechuga Landeros, from the burns she suffered in the workplace accident earlier in the year.

On that fateful January 7, around 8:30 a.m., the staff of the food business were preparing to put out the carts they used to sell their gorditas at various locations in downtown Durango.

At one point, while removing a portable 6-kilogram LP gas tank, one of the workers fell, breaking the connection and causing the fuel to accumulate.

While preparing food, the fuel ignited, resulting in an explosion that caused first-, second-, and third-degree burns to four workers. One of them, identified as María, suffered the most severe burns, covering 70 percent of her body. She was transferred to General Hospital 450.

Antonia sustained burns to her face, while Carmen suffered burns over 50 percent of her body.
