The Durango capital’s water treatment plant, a work in progress for several months, is now in its final phase of construction and testing. According to Yadira Narváez Salas, director of the Durango State Water Commission (CAED), this infrastructure will come into operation in December of this year with a test phase that will allow the distribution of potable water to the city between the months of January and February 2025.
She reported that the plant is designed to purify 1,100 liters of water per second, which will significantly contribute to the supply of potable water in the capital.
Aguas del Municipio de Durango (AMD) will be able to strategically select wells with high contents of fluoride or other substances, so that the water treated at the plant, once stored in the Los Remedios tank, is safely distributed to the population.
This process, he explained, will reduce the consumption of wells with high levels of unwanted minerals, since the potable water will come from surface sources with a lower risk of containing these minerals.
The work, which includes a 10-kilometer pipeline and a pumping system with the support of the Federal Electricity Commission, is a complex infrastructure. The system has 40-inch diameter pipes that require specific tests to ensure their correct operation. Narváez Salas also pointed out that, although surface water can carry some sediments, the system is designed to remove particles, especially those that cause turbidity.
He emphasized that the project seeks to reinforce the safety of drinking water in the capital, improving the quality of this resource and increasing the efficiency of the drinking water service in the city.
