Furniture manufacturers in Durango are facing a drop in sales of up to 20 percent, mainly due to competition with Chinese products, as well as the lack of cash in the local economy.
This was reported by the president of the Association of Furniture Manufacturers, Manuel Rodriguez, who said that costs will have to be reduced during the last two months of this year.
“The industry has had certain difficulties due to imports of Chinese furniture. The furniture sector in Durango is trying to work on this issue by offering better quality products at better prices, trying to match the Chinese market a little,” he said.
And this unfair competition has impacted the sales of local companies. “We have seen a 20 percent drop in sales from what we had year after year and it is affecting us,” he said.
He said that the quality is different, which consumers also have to take into account. “The quality of Chinese products is a little lower, they make furniture that is a little more disposable. The national market, the Durango market, makes products for a long duration,” he mentioned.
He said that this furniture comes through platforms, so they are already trying to regulate this issue through a reform in the Congress of the Union. “Hopefully it can help us to have slightly more competitive prices,” he indicated.
By betting on quality and creativity in designs, the local market hopes to be able to increase sales this year-end, by up to 30 percent.
In light of this, he announced that a Furniture Expo will be held in which offers will be offered with the aim of recovering sales a little and being able to face the commitments of each year-end.
The Furniture Expo will be held on November 8, 9 and 10 at the Arena Lobo, so he urged the population to support local companies.
