In Durango, it is safer to walk alone and at night, survey says

Durango ranked fourth, with 57.1 percent of its inhabitants considering it safe to walk at night unaccompanied in the vicinity of their home.

The states with the highest ratings in this regard were Oaxaca, with 59.5 percent; Yucatán, with 61.1, and Nayarit, with 62.5 percent.

In the latest measurement of citizen perception of security and insecurity, carried out in April of this year, Durango turned out to be one of the entities where the perception of security is highest.

The National Survey of Victimization and Perception of Public Security (Enpive) 2024 indicates that, during the period from March to April of this year, 73.6 percent of the national population aged 18 and over considered that living in their state was unsafe due to crime. This implies that only 26.4 percent said they felt safe.

At the federal level, citizens feel more insecure, since in the municipalities the perception of insecurity decreases to 62.5 percent, and at the neighborhood or subdivision level it is reduced even more, to 40.2 percent.

With respect to the situation of public insecurity in the federative entities, those that obtained the highest percentages of perception of insecurity were: Morelos, with 90.1 percent; Guanajuato, with 87.5, and Zacatecas, with 87.4 percent.

The states that presented the lowest percentages of perception of insecurity were Baja California Sur, with 30.1 percent; Yucatán, with 30.6; Coahuila, with 37.6; Nayarit, with 43.6, and Durango, with 45.7 percent.

Only in these five states the perception of insecurity is less than 50 percent; In the rest of the states, the citizen perception of insecurity is higher than 50 percent.

This means that Durango is considered the fifth state in the country where citizens perceive the best security; that is, 54.3 out of 100 people believe that it is safe to live in their state.
