Despite the criminal acts that have been recorded both on the Superhighway and on the Durango-Mazatlán freeway, there were no cancellations for trips to the port during the long weekend, however, nearly 10 percent of those who had planned a trip for the following weeks have requested a rescheduling due to the uncertainty and fear of the conflict.
This was announced by the president of the Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies of the State of Durango, Héctor Zaragoza, who pointed out that this brought with it a decrease in subsequent sales, that is, there are no longer requests for new reservations and no more quotes, “people are withdrawing for future reservations,” and from 60 percent that normally occurs during this season, they are currently at 20 percent of the requests for quotes, said the businessman from Durango.
Hence the importance of the meeting held by the governor of Durango, Esteban Villegas Villarreal; with his counterpart from Sinaloa, Rubén Rocha Moya and federal authorities, mainly on the strategy that is being proposed for the protection of the transit routes.
“We are very close to this destination, not only for the transit of tourism, but for the transfer of goods,” so there will be serious effects over a very long period. Only in the case of travel agencies, there are more than one hundred companies that depend mostly on tourism from Durango residents going to Mazatlán and vice versa.
“It is important that they generate a good strategy, we are going to trust the authorities, those of the Government of the State of Sinaloa, Durango and the federation, so that this strategy is good and positive, the Superhighway is protected and they can transit freely,” he said.
Ecotourism will also have a negative impact, since after the videos circulated on social media, where a group of men who allegedly belong to organized crime were seen in the Mexiquillo area, those who planned to visit it soon became afraid.
