This year, the entity celebrates 70 years of cinematographic history, and will celebrate it with the filming of series and movies from three major production houses,” said Governor Esteban Villegas Villarreal; as part of the launch of the campaign, the first false documentary “Los invitados” was presented

The Durango Tourism Secretariat presented its new tourism promotion campaign “Durango, a world of cinema” at an event held in the middle of the week at the Cine Tonalá in the Colonia Roma Sur in Mexico City where a false documentary called “Los invitados” was screened as the first promotional video of the campaign.

2024 is the year of Durango, the year that marks a before and after for the people of Durango; “This month we celebrate 70 years of the emergence of the film industry and we celebrate it with the filming of series and movies from three major production companies,” said Governor Esteban Villegas Villarreal, while attending the presentation of the state’s new tourism campaign alongside the head of the State Tourism Secretariat, Elisa Haro Ruiz.

“It has been 70 years of being known as Durango, the land of cinema, and starting this year, we will also be known as Durango, the land of opportunities,” said the governor.

He added that the new concept aims to show the state as a destination with a differentiated tourist offer, showing the wealth of the state under a narrative that will create a brand mystique, and will show the state of Durango as a stage, as a location of the cinematographic world, in which any person (as well as in the cinema) can make their own story.

This is why this fake documentary “The Visitors” was presented as a promotional video, which is set in the recent total solar eclipse, alluding to the sightings of paranormal phenomena in different areas of Durango, which generated an increase in tourism in the state.

The purpose of the documentary’s narrative within the concept of the promotional campaign is to create a synchronous relationship between what the viewer initially imagines to be visitors (from other planets) and the visitors we are ready to receive in Durango.

The story of “The Visitors” is narrated by real Durango residents, whose anecdotes are true but nuanced in advertising to be able to have the double meaning between beings from other worlds and the tourists we see, more and more.

The Secretary of Tourism, Elisa María Haro, commented that this 2024, Durango celebrates 70 years of cinematographic history, having 230 international productions and more than 300 other types of cinematographic projects.

Finally, Villegas Villarreal reiterated that the state of Durango, in addition to charming visitors with its natural resources, will also continue to be recognized as the “Land of Cinema” and will now be the cradle of economic growth and new investments.

Also, during the event, the tourist segments that the campaign will address were presented, named “tourist genres” under the concept “A world of cinema”, which focus on the emotions that our visitors will experience when they arrive in Durango: adventure, romance, drama, action, western, suspense, science fiction and humor.
