According to unofficial reports, four people have lost their lives as a result of this intense battle between elements of the National Defense Secretariat (Sedena) and armed civilians belonging to a criminal group that operates in the area known as the Golden Triangle.
Despite no official confirmation or denial from authorities, it has been confirmed that several rapid and armored units, including the Mexican Army’s Rhino vehicles, are heading towards the site. Additionally, three Sedena helicopters have been flying over the area since 11:00 am, where criminal groups have clashed with armed forces in previous years.
The reported incident occurred in a zone located between the villages of Las Banquetas, near Los Frailes, Chihuahua, and El Durazno, Durango, in the immediate vicinity of the Golden Triangle and the border of the three aforementioned states.
Neighbors living in nearby mountain communities have reported several intermittent confrontations lasting several minutes since midday on Monday. Around 3:00 pm, they reported a loss of cell phone and internet signal in that area, leading authorities to expect confirmation of any fatalities resulting from the shootout within the next few hours.
