“Together we work to mitigate the ravages of drought and climate change in the Laguna region and throughout the state of Durango,” said Governor Esteban Villegas Villarreal when delivering the renovation of the Carlos Herrera Araluce Boulevard, where he received a donation of 300 trees from the company “Sukarne” and the Autonomous University of Durango (UAD), Gómez Palacio campus.
“Thank you for this donation and for thinking about mitigating the ravages of drought, because this contributes to facing the ravages of a climate change that has come upon us and is not going to stop; we have to start doing work like this in all municipalities, in order to establish our normal cycles,” said the governor when symbolically planting one of the donated trees.
For her part, the Secretary of Natural Resources and Environment (SRNMA), Claudia Hernández Espino, said that, through these actions, the commission of the state leader to prioritize and strengthen reforestation in the city of Gómez Palacio was materialized.
The state official stressed that this donation of trees was thanks to an environmental compensation agreement and detailed that the tree species planted are mesquite and Chilean huizache, both endemic varieties of the region.
For this reforestation, the Municipal Government guaranteed the water supply through an automated irrigation system.
The mayor, Leticia Herrera Ale, thanked Governor Esteban Villegas for being the bearer of good news; “thanks on behalf of the people of Gómez Palacio, to the donors for this number of trees, we need to be a green lung for all of us who live in Gómez Palacio,” she considered.
“We have a program that inspires us and we work with enthusiasm; We know that there are great opportunities to help and promote this 2024, which is the Year of Durango,” said the rector of the Autonomous University of Durango, Martín Soriano Sariñana on behalf of the businessmen.
It is worth mentioning that the planted trees will not only beautify the various areas of Gómez Palacio, but will also contribute to reducing temperatures and even to promoting the rains that are so needed in the Laguna region.
