Alejandro Arellano asked for clarification on which roads are included in the report and said that streets with potholes and damage continue to exist in different areas of Durango.
The figure of more than one thousand paved streets in good condition in the municipality of Durango was questioned by Alejandro Arellano, secretary of Organization of the SOMOS party, who asked the municipal administration to specify which roads are included in that record.
The party leader pointed out that there is a difference between the data presented during the review of Mayor Toño Ochoa’s administration report and the conditions that, he said, can be observed daily in different parts of the city.
“I don’t know what streets he is talking about or where he lives; they are pipe dreams,” Arellano said, referring to the report presented by the municipal administration.
He stated that potholes and damage persist on different roads and that, in some cases, the deterioration of the streets can no longer be considered simply potholes, but rather ditches.
Arellano recalled that weeks earlier he had warned that, once the municipal report was completed, repair crews carrying out pothole repairs would no longer be seen. Therefore, he questioned why more than one thousand streets are now being reported as being in good condition.
Given this situation, he asked the municipal government to disclose which roads make up that figure and maintained that citizens need information that allows them to compare the official data with the conditions they face on a daily basis.
The SOMOS secretary of Organization also criticized Mayor Toño Ochoa and said that he should focus on addressing the needs of the city.
He also referred to a possible political aspiration by the municipal president and stated that, if he seeks a candidacy, he would have to wait for the established timelines and step down from office to engage in campaign activities, if applicable.
“For now, he should get to work or tell us where those one thousand streets he announced are that are supposedly in good condition,” he said.
Finally, Arellano used an ironic tone to question the report on roads in good condition and compared it with recent statements made by legislators regarding issues related to outer space.
“It has already come out that Congressman Veracruz is looking at a spaceship to go to Mars; maybe the mayor lives there too, because there must be a thousand streets in good condition over there,” he said.
