The Durango City Council is spearheading the creation of a new Municipal Education Council. This initiative addresses the identified need to improve communication regarding educational processes, incorporate new voices—particularly those of children and adolescents—and strengthen participatory structures that are more stable, inclusive, and effective in meeting the municipality’s current educational challenges.
To this end, a preliminary public consultation regarding the drafting of the ordinance has been launched to gather citizen input on the council’s creation, objectives, and regulatory framework. The consultation process remains open until July 3 via the municipal platform.
Stakeholders are invited to reflect on key issues—such as the challenges to be addressed, the rationale for establishing this body, its objectives, and potential regulatory options—in order to build a shared foundation prior to the final drafting of the ordinance.
This process builds upon Durango’s existing experience with educational participation—gained through forums such as the Municipal School Council and the Education Forum—where schools, families, and social, cultural, and sports organizations have collaborated with institutional representatives to strengthen the link between formal and non-formal education.
