Despite the fact that the 2026 World Cup will be taking place in Mexico for several days, and the intention was for students to finish before summer vacation, the Ministry of Public Education (SEP) decided that the last day of classes would be July 15th.
However, before elementary school students begin their break, the school calendar includes a long weekend.
Therefore, parents should pay attention to announcements made by teachers regarding this break.
When is the long weekend before vacation?
The suspension applies to preschool, elementary, and middle school levels, and only students will be allowed to miss classes.
According to the calendar, the last long weekend before summer vacation applies to all of Mexico, including Durango, and will be from June 26th to 28th, as determined by the School Technical Council (CTE).
Therefore, everyone will have to return to their normal activities on June 29th and wait until July 15th for their summer vacation.

What is the CTE?
This activity is a monthly meeting held by administrators and teachers from each educational institution in Mexico.
Its objective is to evaluate academic progress, as well as review school-related problems and make decisions focused on improving student learning and development.
Although this type of meeting dates back to 1930, it wasn’t until 2013-2014 that the SEP redesigned the entire program, making it a more collaborative and regular workspace.
It is generally held on the last day of the month; however, this varies depending on when the month falls.
