Gold and silver production in Durango falls in the first quarter of the year

Durango’s mining industry reported declining gold and silver production figures at the close of the first quarter of the year, according to the Mining and Metallurgical Industry Statistics (EIMM), which provides information on activity in Mexico’s main mining regions.

Overall, at the national level, mining and metallurgical production in March 2026 fell 3.14 percent year-on-year and, compared to the previous month, decreased by 1.4 percent.

In gold production, Durango reported a total of 582 kilograms in March 2026, 12.8 percent less than in March 2025, when it registered 677 kilograms. Nationally, total production reached 6,259 kilograms in the third month of the year, with Sonora leading the way with 2,013 kilograms.

Silver and Lead Production

Regarding silver, Durango was the second-largest producer, processing 79,377 kilograms in March, second only to Zacatecas, which produced 191,241 kilograms. However, compared to the previous year, production fell by 1.6 percent.

As for lead, Durango reached a production of 752 tons in the same month, a slight decrease of only two tons, equivalent to a 0.3 percent drop.

Meanwhile, in zinc production, Durango mining companies extracted 10,750 tons, a 1.1 percent increase compared to the previous year, when they produced 10,633 tons.

Coahuila and Fluorite

The neighboring state of Coahuila is the second largest producer of fluorite in Mexico, but in March 2026, production fell by 16.4 percent, from 2,767 tons a year earlier to 2,312 tons at the end of the month.

The leading fluorite producer is San Luis Potosí, which reached a production of 67,782 tons.

In cumulative figures, gold production fell from 6,178 kilograms in 2025 to 5,085 kilograms in 2026, a negative change of 17.7 percent. Silver production increased from 347,835 to 363,949 kilograms, a rise of 4.6 percent; while zinc production decreased by 9.2 percent, from 44,295 to 40,204 tons.
