Durango on security alert due to violence in southern Chihuahua: SSP

78

The head of the Public Security Secretariat (SSP), Óscar Galván Villarreal, announced that no violent incidents have been reported in Durango, despite its proximity to municipalities in Chihuahua, where clashes, car and house burnings, and murders have been occurring for weeks.

These events have been concentrated in the border areas, not within the state of Durango, but rather in Chihuahua and Sinaloa, where they have been taking place. Even so, we maintain a significant deployment and appreciate the presence of the Army and the National Guard, who are joining forces to guarantee security in these areas.

He also stated that the border areas with Chihuahua and Sinaloa, particularly in the region known as the Golden Triangle, remain high-risk due to the historical security dynamics of that area.

He indicated that, although the recent events have not occurred within Durango’s territory, they do necessitate increased security measures.

He explained that, given this situation, security forces at all three levels of government maintain constant coordination, exchanging information and conducting joint operations.

He highlighted the participation of the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena), the National Guard (GN), federal and state prosecutors’ offices, as well as state security forces, who are working together to prevent any situation that could affect the population.

The risks have always been present; our border areas are complicated by the nature of the situation that has been developing. We are very vigilant and exchange information daily, with direct contact between deployed personnel and a significant operation involving all agencies.

Finally, he emphasized that the presence of federal forces has been key to strengthening security measures in these regions, where institutional operational bases and constant surveillance are maintained.
