The head of the State Tourism Secretariat, Elisa Haro Ruiz, announced that filmmaking will be a priority for the state in the 2026 budget; however, tourism development will not be overlooked within the “Durango Destinations” program.
“Durango’s destinations are Pueblo Nuevo, Lerdo, Canatlán, Nuevo Ideal, and San Juan del Río; the reality is that we have 39 municipalities, all very rich in history, culture, nature, and gastronomy,” the state official emphasized.
Despite the cultural richness of all the state’s municipalities, the budget would be insufficient, so they will focus their efforts on these five municipalities. “We want to prioritize the ones I just mentioned; the mayors have also significantly contributed,” she added.
They have also focused on strengthening the infrastructure of these “Durango Destinations,” training the involved citizens and developing a product to encourage people to travel back and forth, with the goal of creating a significant economic impact on the communities in the state’s interior.
In terms of tourism, the plan is to promote the state as a sports destination before the end of 2025. Three national events related to swimming, basketball, and 7-a-side soccer will be held in November.
This Monday, the director of the Sports Institute and I were in Mexico City, with the Mexican Sports Tourism Council (Cometud), at a breakfast with sports federations, presenting Durango as a sports tourism destination. These events provide a significant economic impact to Durango because they are so numerous. Elisa Haro Ruiz
To end the year, the Ministry of Tourism is promoting the Christmas Fair, which is mainly visited by residents of Durango and other nationals who visit the state during the December holiday season.
It will be in November when the state agency will undertake a series of actions to promote Durango’s activities in cities like Monterrey and Guadalajara, following the announcement of new flights connecting the state with the country’s main cities.
