The new route will connect Durango residents with the 23 connections to international and domestic cities at the Guadalajara Airport.
This Wednesday, the new flight route available to the public at the Durango Airport was announced. It is the Guadalajara-Durango destination. This was announced by Volaris Market Manager Nancy Galaviz, who noted that through this route, the state will have access to 23 connections to international cities at the airport in the capital city of Jalisco.
It’s an economic development opportunity for you as a municipality and as a state, because in Guadalajara we have connections to 23 international cities, 21 to the United States, as well as Central and South America, with Costa Rica and Bogotá. By this I mean that it goes beyond just reaching Guadalajara. Volaris Market Manager
For her part, the head of the state’s Tourism Secretariat, Elisa Haro Ruiz, pointed out that currently, the majority of tourism entering the state is by land (80 percent), while the remaining 20 percent chooses air travel. It is hoped that by opening new destinations to the state, this percentage can increase.
Haro Ruiz indicated that although the TUA (Airport Use Fee) in the state is one of the highest in the country, the prices Volaris offers will allow more and more people to choose to use air travel to other destinations.
Nancy Galaviz also emphasized that the economic development of each state is closely related to its connectivity, so the flight to Guadalajara will allow for significant growth for the state.
She noted that they are committed to growing, being present, and developing “all those states where connectivity or lack thereof is such an important task. These connections at secondary airports are a very important objective for us,” she said.
For his part, the administrator of the Durango State Airport, Luis Gildardo Garduño Montaño, noted that each flight and connection established to new destinations within and outside the country are carefully studied to ensure they do not have a “swamp effect” and are not withdrawn within a year of their inauguration.
It’s important to ensure that these routes are truly necessary, that they have sufficient demand, and that they allow us to maintain the route over time, that it’s not a short-term investment, where the route lasts a year and then disappears, never to be used again. The flight, which is currently not listed on digital platforms, will officially begin on Monday, November 3rd of this year, the date on which citizens will be able to access this new destination, which will be the epicenter of tourism next year as it will host the World Cup.
