Durango was born as great dreams are born: with faith and hope in the future, said Mayor Bonifacio Herrera during the celebration of the city’s 462nd anniversary.
From the corner of 5 de Febrero and Juárez streets, where the solemn proclamation took place, the mayor recalled that Durango, since its founding, has been a dream come true thanks to the efforts of forward-thinking women and men.
State Governor Esteban Villegas, a special guest at the event, described Durango as Mexico’s discovered gem: a symbol of strength, unity, and resilience that is reborn today with projects such as the Water Treatment Plant, the Tunal II Dam, educational infrastructure, and the newly built Central Station, which will connect with the Linear Park.
The festivities began with a civic ceremony: the flag was raised and a wreath was laid in honor of those who founded the city with perseverance. Subsequently, the remodeled City Museum, carried out with support from the United States Embassy, was handed over.
During the solemn City Council session, the proclamation was read, with which the people of Durango reaffirmed their history and celebrated the achievements built together, reflected in projects such as the 460 Children’s Hospital, the Antonio Memín Garibay Stadium, more than one million square meters of paving, and Río Grande Avenue, among many others.
“Durango is reborn from the strength of its history, the talent and capacity of its people. Let us continue serving Durango united by its values, love for family, and strength for the future. Long live Durango!” concluded Mayor Bonifacio Herrera.
