In the municipality of Mezquital, Durango, the construction of the La Joya Lookout was completed. This project seeks to promote tourism in the region and provide greater safety for those traveling on the road to the community of the same name. The structure was built in an area previously affected by landslides and now offers panoramic views of the natural surroundings.

The project included leveling the land, building retaining walls, curbs, sidewalks, handrails, and lighting, with the goal of stabilizing the area and leveraging it as a new point of interest for visitors.

During a visit to the site, Governor Esteban Villegas Villarreal highlighted the role of tourism as an economic development alternative for Mezquital. He indicated that, in addition to promoting projects like the lookout, investment will continue in basic infrastructure such as drinking water, education, and social services in various communities in the municipality.

He noted that the rehabilitation of roads and access points is part of a plan to facilitate visitor arrivals and promote the dissemination of Mezquital’s natural and cultural attractions.

For his part, Mayor Iván Soto Mendia mentioned that the La Joya Lookout has a dual purpose: to strengthen the safety of the access road and provide a new space for the community and tourists to enjoy the landscape. Ángel Aguirre, Director of Public Works, explained that the project arose from the landslide and was used to create a functional and tourist site.
