The Durango City government swore in neighborhood committees in support of greater security and crime prevention in the state.
More than 400 prevention committees, both in urban and rural areas, pledged to be vigilant and collaborate in preventive actions alongside the agencies responsible for security.
“With these actions, the municipal government supports neighborhood collaboration, and we are also coordinating with the state government in crime prevention efforts,” the mayor stated.
For the mayor, it is important to recognize the work of the various prevention committees, since, he indicated, they will be the voice and the eyes that will help detect potential problems.
It is worth noting that, thanks to citizen participation, there is a neighborhood presence in 235 of the 290 neighborhoods in Durango.
Herrera Rivera noted that these committees conduct preventive patrols with authorities to prevent crimes and conduct whistle-blowing drills to alert residents to prevent robberies and/or street harassment.
The mayor concluded by emphasizing that the committees are part of the efforts that make Durango one of the safest states in the country.
