Early this Friday morning, a trailer loaded with cement overturned inside the Baluarte tunnel of the Durango-Mazatlán Highway; the accident caused the partial closure of the highway.
The accident occurred at 02:00 hours, at kilometer 156+600 inside the Baluarte Tunnel of the Durango-Mazatlán Highway, in Pueblo Nuevo, Durango.
Apparently, the trailer suffered a failure in the brake system when it was traveling through an area of long slopes and its operator, upon realizing that his unit did not have brakes, crashed into the retaining wall in an attempt to stop the heavy transport.
The trailer overturned when it hit the concrete blocks of the retaining wall and its load was scattered all over the pavement. The tractor-trailer ended up on the concrete blocks and the platform blocked one of the lanes. In addition, the mere transit of vehicles raised a gray cloud that reduced visibility for motorists.
Capufe personnel cordoned off the accident area, in coordination with agents of the National Guard, who took charge of the incident report.
The situation of the operator of the overturned trailer is currently unknown.
