The national leadership of Morena, headed by Ariadna Montiel, blamed the PRI and an alleged “modus operandi” that the tricolor party has “been perfecting” for vote-buying, for their defeats not only in Coahuila, but also for their loss last year in Durango.
In a press conference, the national leader presented photographs and videos demonstrating that the PRI’s system even includes a QR code that “bought” citizens must send to PRI mobilizers along with a photograph of their ballot.
“We are denouncing a modus operandi of vote-buying by the PRI. This mechanism was implemented in the same way in the municipal elections in the state of Durango last year, and they have been perfecting it,” denounced Ariadna Montiel.

One of the videos shows people, allegedly PRI personnel, at a house handing out cash in yellow envelopes to people who scanned a QR code, which led to an application where they had to upload a photo of themselves with their ballot.
“Payment was made in various ways; there was a young man making a deposit at an Oxxo convenience store, and there were also houses where cash was being handed out,” he added.
How did the PRI’s vote-buying system operate?
According to Morena’s account, PRI operatives distributed QR codes both days before and on election Sunday. These codes led to a platform where each person had to upload a photo of themselves with the QR code and their ballot showing their vote for the PRI.
Once the photo of the ballot was uploaded to the platform, the person received a deposit at an Oxxo store or could collect their payment in cash, handing over the same code printed on paper, which served as proof of payment.
Montiel warns that they will take the matter to the Federal Electoral Tribunal (TEPJF) due to complaints filed.
Montiel also emphasized that Morena has filed complaints during the campaign and on election day, which they will follow up on and, if necessary, take “all the way to the Superior Chamber of the Electoral Tribunal.”
“We are not going to allow the election to proceed as if nothing happened,” Montiel stressed.
The national president of Morena also rejected the notion that the poor results for Morena in the northern state were due to a flawed strategy left by the leadership of Luisa María Alcalde Luján and the former Secretary of Organization, Andrés Manuel López Beltrán, who was in charge of the election.
“The opposition wants to portray this as a defeat for us, but it isn’t. We continue to move forward, raising awareness among the people, and the data is there. Our courageous members and the citizens who have walked hand in hand with us have built a more solid and organized base,” she stated.
