For next year, the Durango Tourism Secretariat will carry out a staff cut due to the decrease in the budget allocated for payroll, although an increase of about four million pesos is contemplated for various programs.
Elisa Haro Ruiz, head of the Tourism Secretariat, confirmed that, although the Income and Expenditure Law for 2025 has yet to be approved, there is already a budget proposal that, it seems, will be approved in December.
In this proposal, a reduction of approximately five percent in the resources allocated to the payroll of the Tourism Secretariat for 2025 is proposed.
“The Secretariat had 180 workers; we had to make several cuts and now we have around 60. With the five percent decrease in the payroll, we will have to continue reducing the number of staff,” said Haro.
However, he clarified that he still does not know how many workers will be laid off, since this will depend on whether they are cutting positions with high salaries (one or two workers) or with normal salaries (three or four workers).
Regarding operational work, he said that they are waiting to define how the federal budget will be distributed and how much will be assigned to Durango. At the state level, the budget will increase from 10 to 14 million pesos for different programs.
“We are working on the proposal for next year, reinforcing areas such as cinematography, tourism promotion and CecatCine.
“In addition, there are interesting issues that we must coordinate with the Federation, such as sports tourism, which generates great benefits for Durango. Community tourism is also contemplated, in which the Federation promotes the mobility of older adults and children to different states, and we hope that Durango will be one of those destinations,” commented Haro Ruiz.
