Social networks grow in Mexico

5 out of 10 companies doubled their growth on the internet; increases online sales volume up to 300%

The pandemic caused an increase of up to 90 percent in the use of online shopping applications and led Mexicans to increase their time on social networks .

Until June, 5 out of 10 companies doubled their growth on the internet, and 2 out of 10 registered increases of up to 300 percent in the volume of online sales, said Rebeca Escobar Briones , head of the Center for Studies of the Federal Institute of Telecommunications (IFT).

Facebook consumption increased 35 minutes a day on average, while the time spent browsing YouTube went from 57 minutes to an hour and 18 minutes, per day on average, he said in the forum Challenges of Competition in the Digital Environment 2020.

Salvi Folch , CEO of izzi Telecom , asserted that internet consumption continues to rise, due to innovation and the launch of new applications. In October this year alone, the average consumption on izzi networks exceeds the level of 280 gigs per month, he said.

“Video and geolocation services will continue to increase demand,” he mentioned.

Ricardo Monreal , president of the Political Coordination Board in the Senate, affirmed that digital services require a new legal framework in line with current times, which stimulate innovation under conditions of competition.
