AMLO says that the US security agencies operated without limitations in Mexico during past administrations

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador criticized that US security agencies have operated without restrictions during previous administrations.

Asked why it was the DEA and not the Mexican government who acted against Salvador Cienfuegos Zepeda and Genaro García Luna, he said that it was because the DEA had already been working on the issue for years and had information that the Mexican government did not have. in addition to operating in the country without obstacles.

AMLO urged the DEA to clarify its relationship with Cienfuegos, detained in Los Angeles accused of drug trafficking and laundering. “Undoubtedly they lived with the general secretary of the past administration.”

He recalled the Fast and Furious operation , in which the ATF handed over weapons in a controlled manner that ended up in the hands of criminal groups.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador asked to wait for the evidence that the United States government will present in the case against Salvador Cienfuegos Zepeda, to determine the level of responsibility of the former head of the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena), of the rest of the Armed Forces and former President Enrique Peña Nieto.

In an interview in San Pedro Tapanatepec, Oaxaca, the Mexican president pointed out that if Cienfuegos Zepeda is found guilty, this does not mean that the entire structure of the Sedena is contaminated.

He stressed that an entire institution such as the Army cannot be held responsible for the actions for which its head may at some point be responsible.

“Even in that case, if he will prove responsible, the conduct of General Secretary Cienfuegos does not represent the principles of a great institution such as the Secretariat of Defense.
