The Operation Crystal Shield ( Escudo de Cristal ) hit hard blows to Mexican cartels drug operating in the territory of the United States: securing 13 thousand 154 kilograms (about 29,000 lbs) of methamphetamine and 43.3 million dollars was the result, according to William Barrattorney general of that country, in a press conference held this Thursday in PhoenixArizona.

The results of Operation Crystal Shield and another called Operation Legend have also left since its inception:

  • Nearly 2,000 arrests, with nearly 600 defendants in federal court.
  • Confiscation of 284 high-caliber firearms.
  • In addition, a recovery of more than 9,375 million dollars that will finance the preparation of 75 officers in the city of Chicago, Illinois.

According to William Barr and Timothy J. Shea, Acting Administrator of the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) , Operation Crystal Shield was launched in February 2020 to attack the structures of the Mexican drug cartels, which are the criminal cells that lead the trafficking of synthetic drugs in the neighboring country to the north, drugs on which the government of Donald Trump has declared war.

  • Throughout the administration, William Barr has had differences with President Donald Trump
  • However, it complies with the order to harm the Mexican drug cartels in the United States.
  • The country faces a wave of consumption of these drugs, which come mainly from Mexico.

The DEA of the American Union explains to the population the nature of synthetic drugs :

“(These drugs) mimic hallucinogens ; they have been found in the form of powders, liquid solutions or attached to edible items and soaked in blotting papers […] They are sold as illegal drugs (and their consumption) in extremely small quantities can cause seizures, cardiac and respiratory arrest and death ”.

More assurances

Meanwhile, in a separate operation carried out in the seaport of the city of San Diego, in the state of California the DEA delegation reported on the seizure of 9,979 kilos of cocaine and 1,655 kilos of marijuana, the latter drug displaced in commercial terms due to the regularization of the plant in California.

In that sense, and after the seizure of cocaine and marijuana carried out this Thursday afternoon, the DEA in San Diego commented that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), among other government bodies, worked in a coordinated way to find the route of the merchandise that, they celebrated, “will no longer reach the streets of the United States .”
