Coronavirus in Mexico today August 1: latest news, cases and deaths

Mexico kicks off the third month of the so-called ‘new normal’, with half of the states at maximum risk for the coronavirus pandemic , while the rest appear in orange traffic lights, including CDMX and the State of Mexico. Although some regions are at the beginning of the slow de-escalation, many more are about to reach the peak of contagion or even increase exponentially.

In general figures, the Mexican Republic has suffered about 435 thousand positives for COVID-19, a virus that has already claimed the lives of more than 47 thousand people, according to the figures most recently presented by the Ministry of Health of the Government of Mexico, corresponding to the court Saturday, August 1, 2020.

47,472 deaths with a 10.93% fatality rate

In Mexico, 47,472 people have died, victims of the new coronavirus. The case fatality rate is 10.93%, well above the world average reported by the World Health Organization, corresponding to 3.9%. As for deaths, in yesterday’s cut Mexico was placed as the number three country in the world that has recorded the most perished , above China, Spain, France, Italy, the United Kingdom, Russia, Sweden and India; and only below the United States and Brazil.

In confirmed accumulated cases, the Mexican Republic registers 434,193 positives, of which 11.94% (51,854 cases) are considered as estimated assets, that is, they represent the population currently ill with COVID-19, which is of greater danger of contagion for third parties and that their symptoms were recorded in the recent 14 days.

65% of cases have successfully recovered

According to information from the Ministry of Health, 278,618 cases successfully recovered are officially registered , which represents 65% of the total cases confirmed to date.

Mexico City and the State of Mexico, the epicenter of the pandemic

The center of the country is the one that has suffered most from the coronavirus outbreak. In Mexico City alone, there have been 74,314 positive cases, 8,969 deaths, and it is currently estimated to house 6,972 people with active disease. The Mexican entity is the second of greatest attention, as it reports 53,513 accumulated infections, 6,500 deaths and has 4,799 estimated active cases. Between both states, they house a third of national cases.

Nine more states exceed two thousand estimated active infections

In addition to the State of Mexico and Mexico City, nine states exceed two thousand active infections. These are Guanajuato (3,821), Nuevo León (2,958), Veracruz (2,739), San Luis Potosí (2,675), Coahuila (2,460), Tabasco (2,233), Tamaulipas (2,229), Yucatán (2,024) and Puebla (2,233) . Among these nine states, they harbor 40% of the estimated active disease in our country.
